Twitter Apps iLike

August 25th, 2009 by Sascha received No Comments »

Man. I like my headline of today =) Since this post is not only about twitter apps i like, but also about apps that feature more than twitter aaaaand iLike which soon could feel facebooks wrath.

But let’s start with my most used twitter apps at the moment (yeah. changes pretty often – it’s happening a lot at the moment).

Right now I prefer philtro.com & cotweet.com for monitoring. Philtro.com allows you to like and unlike tweets – then it starts learning and shows you your personal trending topics, tweets that are interesting for you and so on. of course it is possible to block, follow, etc. other twitter users right from the webbased application.

cotweet.com is a pretty popular application since it is used by twitter itself for monitoring and doing the corporate twitter thing. It allows you to monitor different twitterchannels and offers you bulk actions, separate actions, statistics and the possibility to asign tasks to your colleagues. Furthermore it has an integrated URL-shortener (bit.ly, of course) and comes with suggestions on how to use twitter as a company (e.g. use ^sf to asign a tweet to a specific person, when there are more people twittering on your company account). Honestly, cotweet.com is not one of the easiest applications out there and it might take some time to get into it, but it is pretty awesome and gives you a lot of opportunities. When the guys keep on the good work it well get better (and more reliable and FASTER) too. Then it’s going to be THE twitter app, I think :-)

The next pretty nice twitter app is twerpscan.com. Twerpscan describes itself as anti fool contact management and is pretty simple. It shows you your followers, how many follwers they have, how many people they follow, the followers/following ratio and so on. from this statistics you can decide whether it’s worth following them or not. or maybe you want to kick them right away. The cool thing: kicking & following is possible right from within the webbased application. pretty easy, though? =)

Besides showing your followers / following it also offers a “drill down page” which shows your follower development, latest tweets, how many retweets and replies you had within your last 200 tweets and what can be found on the web matching your profile (pretty accurate though!). So twerpscan is a pretty cool and interesting tool that sneaks into my browser (webbased, of course) quite often!

The funny twitter app for today: woofertime! (I always hear myself shouting “hammertime” – anyway… ;-) ). Woofertime is pretty similar to twitter – besides the fact that it forces you to use at least 1.400 characters! That really leads to some funny “short messages” ;-) So the next time you’re bored at work, woof a little!

Now that’s enough for today with twitter apps, let’s switch to streamy.com – a multi messaging, twitter, rss whatever webbased application. Right now I consider streamy as pretty awesome – even though there are still a few bugs around. To go down on the features…you can:

  • import your rss reader – no need to keep google (or whatever) open all the time
  • you can chat! implementing AIM, MSN, GTalk, etc. is pretty easy
  • of course, you can connect to twitter and facebook. you can choose how many status updates should be shown.
  • you can retweet, etc. right away!
  • you can browse through other streamy users’ interests and follow them
  • and so much more…simply give it a try (you can connect through facebook connect, by the way)

I like streamy ;-)

What a bridge….iLike! ;-) Since MySpace acquired iLike last week, everyone was waiting for facebook to take action….will they ban iLike (it’s most uses application with over 10 million users) or will they let MySpace become the biggest facebook developer? Looks like plan a comes into action….techrunch rumours that facebook is about to get on spotify (a cool european music platform). Mark Zuckerberg’s facebook status of today: “spotify is so good” might be an evidence into this direction.

Anyway, still rumours so far, but it stays pretty interesting  when the big guys start playing – brave new web 2.0 world ;-)
