When diving more into the SEO ocean again, I came across some articles talking about boxes and placement of content and their importance. And that’s cool’ cause now I can say: I told you so! ;-)
About one year ago I started my final paper / thesis at the University of Applied Sciences Würzburg. And what did I tell? Exactly. Sites will get more and more divided into boxes, content placement will become more crucial and crawlers will develop into this direction as well. Call me Mr… oh no wait, don’t call me Mr ;-) And yeah, I know, wasn’t that hard to tell. But someone had to say it =)
But back to where we came from: (Books from) Boxes. What boxes? Well when looking on a website in general there are already different “boxes” even though they might not be marked separately. Just imagine those boxes around the place where you see the navigation, the content, the navigation….right…similar to the <divs> on your page. But it’s not only about the <divs>. Think about different boxes within the <content div> (or whatever you may call it) – crawlers might be able to recognize boxes and update them on different basis.
For example: It’s more crucial to index your “newsbox” regularly than your “about me box”. See where we’re coming from? It might even become more important where you place your content and links. Close to a picture, near to the footer, close to your adspace, etc…
Well. Actually all I wanted to say is, that site structure might become more important in the not so far future and if I’ll find enough time during the next 2 weeks or so, I’ll draw a fancy graphic in order to show you exactly what I mean ’cause I guess most of you are simply thinking “wtf is he trying to tell us?” :D
