Android Apps: Language Training

Dezember 3rd, 2009 by Sascha received No Comments »

Since being a huge fan of Spanish but not having that much time to practice, I just had a look at some applications for my google phone in order to practice while being on the road. I tried a lot of free applications and kept three apps so far. Honestly there’s one, that is pretty cool. The other might not last long on my device. So if you have any tips (even paid apps – if you can recommend some), feel free to leave a comment.

So here are my top three language android apps so far:

  • Free Basic Spanish: Provides you with 30 minutes of a spanish audio book. If you want more, you have to buy it. Nice to listen to when there’s nothing else to do…
  • LangCards: displays flash cards with random sentences and their translation on it. you can choose whether you want it to remember you to have a look at it every once in a while or not. Unfortunetaly the sentences are really really random and do not make much sense every time. recommended for at least a little experienced speakers. You can rate every card with *thumbs up* or *thumbs down*.
  • Spanish Flashcards: My fav so far. Gives you a huge selection of categories of whom it should display english words or expressions (e.g. “Idioms”, “Verbs”, “Common words”, etc..). It shows first the english word, then the spanish one (after you clicked on the english expression). There’s no hurry – you slide over to the next word when you’re ready. Cool goodie: Spanish Flashcards provides you with the opportunity to read every expression, english or spanish, to you.

As you can see, I’m not really excited about the apps I’ve found so far (except of the Spanish Flashcards) – so what’s your experience? Let me know!
